Frequently Asked Questions About Massage Therapy

Because massage therapy has so many approaches to soft tissue healing and the maintenance of a healthy body, you probably have questions.

Whatever your question… we have a quick and direct answer for you!

Please check out the following responses to your important questions about how our massage therapy can help you, whether it’s to reduce swelling… relieve pain… help with soft tissue injuries… or work with pre and post-surgery conditions.

What is massage therapy?

At the Lewisville Massage Therapy Clinic, we view massage therapy as an integral approach to effectively work with pain, sports-related injuries, pre and post-surgery conditions, and provide treatments for swelling. Our perspective on massage therapy is this: we believe it to consist of many different types of soft tissue manipulation that can positively influence different bodily structures and function, for instance:

  • Muscles and tendons
  • Lymphatic vessels and nodes
  • Connective tissues (joints and ligaments)
  • Blood vessels and nerves

Who are you?

The owners — and principal massage therapists — of Lewisville Massage Therapy Clinic include Dianne Maas, LMT, CLT-LANA, and her husband Richard Maas, LMT, MTI.

Dianne is a graduate from the Institute of Natural Healing Sciences (1990), with studies in basic and advanced massage therapy training. Prior to her education in massage therapy, she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Dianne has focused her massage therapy approach toward lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling, having been trained in the Dr. Vodder method of Combined Decongestive Therapy at Victoria, British Columbia, in 1995. Dianne is a certified Lymphatic Therapist, and has dedicated her practice exclusively to this treatment for swelling.

Richard is also a graduate from the Institute of Natural Healing Sciences (1990), where he became proficient in a variety of basic and advanced massage therapy techniques. He also attended the University of Texas at Arlington, where he studied music and played collegiate basketball. Richard has honed his skills with much continuing education, and gears his massage therapy to help relieve soft tissue pain and optimize function. He makes use of a multi-disciplinary approach, combining the best elements of myofascial release, trigger point therapy, positional release, and muscle energy technique to treat his clients. In 1997, Richard began teaching many aspects of therapeutic massage in different venues… both his own independent workshops and structured classes through massage education facilities.
